An Igbo plumber, Ikechukwu Isaac who is based in Ibadan has gone to Letuntun Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan to obtain an injunction to dissolve his nine-year-old marriage with his wife and mother of his two
children, Mrs. Ekuious Ikechukwu. He is claiming that his wife wear trousers to their matrimonial bed every night in order to deny him sex.
The couple who live at the Ekotedo area of the state capital told the court that they were both fed up with the union as there was no more happiness and harmony in the family, with the estranged wife also alleging irresponsibility and promiscuity against her husband to justify her action.
Mr Ikechukwu described his wife as ill-mannered and disrespectful to members of his family who visit them.
Mr ikechukwu said that her wife is not happy seeing his relations around him, especially when they started living with us, even though it is a two-room apartment.
”She would not do any house chores; expecting my siblings to sweep for her so that she can sit down doing nothing.
”But, whenever I talk to her about her provocative attitude, she would ignore me as if we had misunderstanding. This was the frequent occurrence to the extent that she no longer heeded my instructions. I just can’t tolerate her,” Mr. ikechuku said
The situation, Ikechukwu said, was worsened because his wife allegedly kept bad company of friends, who told lies that he had concubines and so instigated her against him.
On her part, Mrs. Ikechukwu denied the allegations. She said: “He is lying, because there was no such time I disregarded his family members.
The court president, Chief Henry Agbaje, ordered that the two go their separate ways and the products of the union be put in the custody of their mother.
Agbaje warned both parties to stop harassing each other and ordered the plaintiff to pay N6,000 monthly for the children’s upkeep and N3,000 to the defendant to remove her belongings from his house.
