The Super Eagles went five steps down the ladder in the latest ranking released by the football governing body,
FIFA. The slide is due to result of Nigeria unable to qualify for the 2017 African cup of nation.
The implication of this is that Nigeria may be handed a daunting 2018 World Cup qualifying adraw in June. Egypt, who stopped Nigeria from qualifying for the 2017 AFCON, shot up nine places to 44 in the world and is now among the top five teams in Africa.
This latest ranking will now enhance Egypt’s chances to be among the top five seeds when the World Cup draw is staged on June 24.
Nigeria, on the other hand, could now find itself in a World Cup qualifying group that has at least two teams better ranked than them currently.
If Nigeria are to improve their ranking, they have to play a better rated teams in FIFA friendly that is coming up in June before the world cup qualifier draw.
In the world ranking, Argentina lead the way followed by Belgium, Chile, Colombia and Germany, while Africa top 10 are; Algeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal, Egypt, Cape Verde Islands, Tunisia, Congo DR, Guinea and Congo.
