Plateau United started their Nigeria Professional Football
League (NPFL) season on a bright note winning Niger Tornadoes 2-1 on Saturday
at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.
The much talked about encounter started with both
teams starting the match on a fast pace.
The Jos-based team broke
the deadlock in the 17th
minute of the encounter through Charles
Okafor’s powerful header, with Bala’s assisting him
from a corner kick.
Niger Tornadoes didn’t relax, they quickly put
the goal deficit behind them and launched series of attacks on their hosts but the
duo of Lukman and Wilfed Ammeh failed to convert their chances in front of
goal.
The half timed ended 1-0 in favour of plateau
united and both teams shared the ball possession at 50 per cent
At the beginning of second half, Niger Tornadoes
almost leveled the score, but the resilience of Lankat Isah in defence
In the 64th minute, Issa blasted the
ball past the Plateau United goalkeeper, Innocent Ndem, to make it 1-1.
Plateau United finally restored their one-goal lead
when Bala's corner kick was tapped in by Ibeh Johnson after a goalmouth
scramble.
Johnson's goal just three minutes before full time
was enough for Plateau United to take the all three points.
